Not that the Dudes didn’t care, but the hiring of Mike Grier, the trading of Brent Burns, and the new direction of the franchise makes things more interesting.

Really agree with Doug’s point about upping EK65’s value. Sharks could tank this year for a lottery pick in next year’s strong draft. And hopefully get EK65 to request a trade during this rebuild.

Share your enthusiasm for some kind of change, but unimpressed with the actual deals. Would have liked more for Burns and KK + Kunis are being overpaid. With the release of a few offensive players it looks like a tank year. Could get rid of Karlsson next year and be in the lottery for Bedard. Good idea to lose this year and lose badly ?

    • Nazir says:

Quinn’s hiring is the strongest sign yet that Sharks management is accepting of at least some level of rebuild. Only reasons you would hire him are 1) he’s good with young players and 2) it’s not a popular coaching vacancy.

I don’t for a second believe Grier got rid of Dahlen and Balcers because he wants to tank. He’s just going after his kind of guys – heart and soul players, plus bang-the-body types. That said, by hiring Quinn we are guaranteed to get some high draft picks in the next few years ?. And if Karlsson does ask for a trade after the Sharks miss the playoffs again this year that is a plus. I personally am happy to see a new direction for SJ, but can’t say I’m excited about any of the moves except bringing in Doug Weight.
